Looking for Plant-Based Natural Skincare that Works?

Apothaka Skincare

I was so excited when Natasha, the founder of Apothaka Skincare approached me to try out her products as I'm always looking for new, natural, cruelty free skincare. I had a look on her website, and after having a good read, I sat and eagerly awaited my package...

First Impressions

The first thing you will notice when you receive your items is how beautifully packaged they are. They both come in a sweet little organza bag, and the cuticle oil is also encased in its own box. If you are giving these as a gift, the lucky recipient will be balled over with the attention to detail, or you will be if the recipient is you haha!

Being a nail addict the first thing I tried was of course the nail and cuticle oil. I have used many oils for the nails, but I have to say that this one is the lightest, non-greasy one tried yet. My skin absolutely loved it, and even after the first few uses my cuticles looked healthier.  I have been using this product twice or more on a daily basis, on a morning before work and on an evening before bed. If I've been messing around and painting my nails, I bob some on then too.

The nail and cuticle oil comes in a brown glass roller ball bottle. It is very easy to use and you only need to roll on the smallest amount, a little really does go a long way. As mentioned before I use this at least twice a day, I've had it for maybe just over two weeks and it looks like I've only gone about 2cm down the bottle, there's loads left! This oil is 100% natural and includes lemon, lavender and myrrh and it smells lovely. It's not strong, instead as you apply you will notice a very subtle aroma tickle your nose.

Next up I tried the Rejuvenating Face Oil. I chose the normal - combination option as my skin is very up and down, prone to breakouts, dry one minute oily the next. If you are struggling to figure out which option is best for you, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Natasha as she is so friendly and helpful and she'll talk with you to find the right product.

This comes in a brown glass dropper bottle and you can choose between a travel size and a full size. You only need to use 3-4 drops on an evening under your moisturiser and a couple of drops mixed in with your moisturiser on a morning as advised by the lovely Natasha. The scent is the teeniest bit stronger than the cuticle oil, probably because you're using more of it in one go, but it is so pleasant and lovely to use and quite relaxing on an evening when you're winding down after a long days work.

Again, I've tried many different oil products for my face, but this is the lightest and non greasy one yet. I tend to give it a few minutes to properly work it's way into the skin before adding moisturiser or makeup.

Those of you who may know me a little will know that the past year I've suddenly started having problems with breakouts. My beautiful friend Jo over at Crystal & Vanilla sent me some products to try that have really been helping, and I've seen an incredible difference in my skin. I integrated Apothaka Skincare's oil into my routine on the very day it landed on my doorstep and I have been so, so impressed.

First of all my skin at this time of year gets very dry, and even using a good moisturiser doesn't stop my makeup from flaking throughout the day. I can safely say that my skin is the best it has ever been during the winter months since using this Face Oil. It is so well nourished and feels so soft, applying makeup is a dream.

After the first few days I noticed that the redness around my breakouts were starting to lessen, and the spots were going down .... but more about this in the next chapter haha!

Final Verdict

Well I can easily say that after two weeks of use I can give the nail and cuticle oil a big thumbs up! It is priced at £9.95 for 10ml and as I mentioned earlier, only the smallest amount is required. I believe that this is fantastic value for money and everyone needs a bottle! Also if you're still shopping for Christmas - wouldn't this make the most perfect stocking filler?

Back to the face oil... I could easily sit here and tell you that this is magic in a bottle and that your breakouts will vanish after the first use, but I wont. Lets be really honest! I decided to jot down a day-by-day experience to give me a real idea as to how well this oil actually works. I was truly and genuinely over the moon.  Let me give you a little breakdown of my results...

  • 2-3 days noticeable difference in the redness and swelling going down around breakouts, skin feeling very well nourished
  • 4-7 days no further breakouts, less redness, skin looking brighter and feeling lovely and soft. Makeup starting to sit nicer on the skin.
  • 7-10 days minimal redness around problem areas, breakout on my cheek has started to clear!  No new breakouts - still!
  • 10-14 days skin is looking and feeling better than it has in over a year!

So as you can see from my own personal experience, although my spots didn't disappear over night like magic, it really hasn't taken long to see a huge improvement in my skin. I'm hoping through continued use of this product, I will finally have my breakouts under complete control for good or even gone completely! That really would be magical! My worst breakout on my cheek hasn't completely gone, but I can tell you that I'm now not needing to use colour corrector under makeup or concealer on this area anymore as the swelling and angry redness has gone. GONE!

Even if you are lucky enough not to suffer with breakouts, or if you have other skin conditions that could do with an extra helping hand, I really do recommend this face oil to you. I know that everyone's personal experience will differ, but I really do feel that you will see a huge difference in the condition of your skin.

If you opt for the travel size oil it will cost £19.50 or if you decide on the larger size it will be £38.95. As you are using a measured amount, you can't really over use, so I still feel that this is fantastic value for money.

A little bit about Natasha

I had to add this into the post... I really do believe in buying from smaller businesses as you get the best, most personal customer service, shopping with Natasha's business has been no different. Even in the few conversations we have had, I can tell just how passionate she is about her work, and the wealth of knowledge she has built up is just incredible. She is so approachable, very friendly and easy to talk to, I believe she genuinely wants to help you!

I'm very much looking forward to watching this business grow, and being able to buy my whole skincare regime from Apothaka Skincare!

I wish you all the best Natasha!
