Beauty/Blog Room Tour: Before and After
When we bought this house it was always going to be that the smaller spare bedroom would be Rob’s ‘Game Room’ (no more taking over the living room with his Playstation!), and the second double bedroom would be for me. Now 4 or so years ago when we moved in I wasn’t blogging, didn’t even know what it was and so my room was going to eventually become a walk in wardrobe.
However we soon realised that owning your own home is expensive, and are very lucky if you can afford to do everything in one go. We had to prioritise. First we sorted out our bedroom, then we painted the bathroom, then Rob’s room, then the living and dining rooms needed re-plastering/re-wiring and decorating, then we got married and so on and so on - and before you know it, my to-be walk in wardrobe turned into the sh*t room…
Yep, anything and everything that we couldn’t be bothered turfing out or sorting out got thrown into this room. In fact right at the very back there were still boxes from when we moved in with God knows what in them!
A few years later and we have got to a good place with our home, I mean don’t get me wrong - there is still so much to be done, but the time felt right where I could be selfish and set up my very own space where I could sit down and do my nails, makeup, blog, and eventually make Youtube videos. I hired a skip, and let me tell you that it was the best £100 I ever spent! It got dropped off one morning and picked up that very same evening.
Thats right! We actually filled it. To be fair some of that crap came out of the garage too (but let’s not talk about the garage yet, that’s a job for another day!).
I was ruthless, I hold no sentiment to most objects so throwing all that crap out was easy and oh so satisfying.
The Beginning of the Makeover
Now that I had a nice, empty room I could start imagining how to make use of the space. It used to be a teenage boys room, so the first thing I did was buy a couple of tins of white paint and covered up that ghastly dark blue. I was originally going to paint the ‘feature wall’ pink, but after browsing lots of samples, I decided on a more grown up pinky-lavender shade.
The room felt so much more spacious, and a lot brighter too. I loved it already, now all I needed to do was cover the wonky floorboards with some decent underlay and a brand new carpet. Of course I didn’t personally do this, I wouldn’t know where to start, the fella from Carpet Right sorted it out perfectly.
I really wish I’d thought ahead and knew that this post was going to be written as I would have taken photos each step of the way. Never mind - what’s done is done!
My New Favourite Place - B&M
Adding the final touches to this room probably cost me about £100. I got everything from B&M - the throws, the rugs, the shelves, light shades - literally everything except the desks and chairs (I got those from Ikea) are from the same store.
The grey velvet box seats are fabulous, great for extra seating but for storage too - £19.99 each! I still want to buy more finishing touches such as wall art, fairy lights, photo props etc.. but for now this is my own perfect little space to work in.
I love how I have a place for everything, somewhere to sit and do my hair/makeup, somewhere to sit and do my nails, somewhere to sit and work on my blog. I even have multiple places to sit and read. It was all worth waiting for.
Shelving my polishes was one of my favourite projects in this room - I want to eventually have a full wall to Leighton Denny(5 shelves worth to go!). The unit and lighting sits beneath the shelving, the unit is from Ikea and works perfectly to house the rest of my polishes/accessories.
Next year I hope to finally start finishing off the rest of the house, the hallway/landing needs a complete makeover, I have flooring waiting to be put down in the bathroom (maybe a quick new lick of paint over the walls in here too), and I could do with re-decorating the bedroom as I can’t stand the colour we have in there anymore. So much to do! But I feel like these few things are achievable for 2019, and on my list of goals.
I hope you have enjoyed todays post, if you have your very own blog/beauty room I would love to see your pics. Tag me on Instagram and inspire me!
Thank you so much for reading, see you tomorrow!
Love, Leanne Xx
