With the summer holidays fast approaching, I often wonder if anyone else feels my dread! Of course there is nothing quite like having an annual getaway to look forward to BUT it can also be a daunting prospect - revealing your body to the world........OK, OK I realise I'm being dramatic but with my Italian holiday looming, I'm feeling a tad hysterical!!!!!! I've had months to prepare my body but oh no I leave it to the last 4 weeks!!
Now, I do my fare share of exercise, in fact some may say I'm a little obsessional especially with my love for HIT and muscle exhaustion classes but I cant get enough of those mood boosting endorphins and in turn it firms my body.
Food, Glorious Food! how you are my downfall :( If only I was as evangelical about my diet as I am my exercise regime. I'm definitely no saint but then neither would I want to be, the thought of abstaining from my favourite treats brings me out in a cold sweat. Admittedly, I indulge in too much coffee, crisps and chocolate, oh and I can't forget my weekend prosecco nights (they're just the best). So you see my dilemma, these treats contribute negatively to my less than perfect thighs......... But all isn't lost, there is still hope and I know exactly what to do!
Something that I have practised religiously prior to a holiday is Dry Body Brushing. There are so many positive benefits: increased circulation, it sloughs away dead skin cells, encourages skin renewal and speeds up lymphatic drainage....... you're onto a winner! However I can't claim this will reduce the appearance of your cellulite but for me personally it really works a treat. Not only is my cellulite improved but the skin on my thighs looks brighter, fresher and dare I say it, more even toned. Onto the next stage - Manual exfoliation. This will amplify your dry brushing regime. My preferred method is to use Coffee Body Scrubs; these are very new to me but I must say I've been blown away by the results. For some unknown reason I'd always thought they wouldn't be exfoliating enough; this couldn't be further from the truth! They deliver a vigorous scrub that eliminate any dead or dry skin cells within seconds. Of course they don't just contain coffee but also a multitude of skin loving ingredients that hydrate, nourish and moisturise plus they are 100% pure and natural. They should however come with a warning ⚠️ they are extremely messy, so be prepared to give the shower a thorough clean after. Personally I find the coffee scrubs more effective than any other body scrub I've previously used, so the inconvenience is worth it. My preferred range is an English brand called Pure Purpose, they make a heavenly scented scrub with Turmeric and Orange and a variety of other delicious fragrances...........absolutely divine.
Now that all dead skin cells have been obliterated; any oils or lotions will sink into the skin effortlessly. There are so many wonderful lotions and potions on the market to choose from, from budget to high end creams. One that I've enjoyed using for many years now is from Lush, it's called Dream Cream. It intensely nourishes, leaving the skin super soft. However using any preferred body lotion will do the job.
Now the body is sorted I'd like to focus on feet. With all the beautiful sandals to choose from I think it's important to spend some extra time pampering the feet. Dry, cracked heels are not only uncomfortable but unsightly. Margaret Dabbs, London specialises in pedicure treatments, with a good selection of products. My very favourite is the professional foot file, which buffs away hard skin build up and works best on dry feet. Nothing has worked for me as well as this superior file. It is formulated with crushed crystals which eliminates skin finely and effectively. Definitely one to look out for. Now for the fun part - nail polishes. For me the brighter the better, I always seem to go for corals, hot pinks, reds and occasionally blue! And why not! Your feet are in awesome condition so why not highlight them and show them off. Have a fabulous summer.
