Rae xoxo’s September Favourites - 2016

I would like to thank Leanne for letting me write a guest blogpost for her brilliant blog. I hope Leanne & her readers enjoy reading about what I've been loving in September. If you didn't know I’m Rae & my blogs are & & I would love it if you could check out my blogs & follow me on Twitter & Instagram

September has been quite a long month for me as I’ve spent nearly every day visiting my Nan in Hospital. I’ve also been up to Great Ormond Street Hospital to have a MRI scan & a check up appointment with my Consultant. I’ve been so busy this month I'm hoping October will be a lot less stressful. For my guest post I have chosen seven of my favourite products I have been using this month. I hope you love what I’ve chosen.

I have become obsessed with false nails this month!!! I bought a few packs of Elegant Touch nails at the start of the month & since I applied them I have just fallen in love with how they look on my nails. I have had so many people compliment me & ask me where I went to get my nails done. I cant believe how natural the false nails look & how easy they are to apply. Check out my Elegant Touch haul on my blog Have you tried Elegant Touch false nails??? What other brands of false nails do you like to use???

My next favourite is Converse Chucks socks. I got a three pack of Converse socks from TK maxx a few weeks ago & they cost £5.99. The Chucks socks are perfect to wear with low top converse or vans. The socks are really comfortable to wear & are really good quality. The best thing about them is they stay on your feet. Cheaper versions of the socks that you can get in Asda, New Look, Primark & H&M that I have bought in the past never stay up & always fall down. Next time I’m in TK maxx I'm definitely going to buy another pack.

I have been using Burt’s Bees lip shine all month long!!! I received it in a beauty subscription box at the start of the year & have only started to use it now. The best thing about Burt’s Bees is the products are all 100% natural. The colour lip shine I have is called ‘Whisper’ It is a sheer pink colour & leaves your lips looking shiny. The lip shine isn't sticky on your lips & it lasts forever, so you will hardly ever have to reapply it through the day which is brilliant. The lip shine costs £7.99 & you can buy it from the Burt’s Bees website

Another beauty favourite of mine this month is Benefit’s Goof Proof brow pencil. I received the brow pencil in July’s issue of Elle magazine. I blogged about Benefit’s brow pencil on my monthly blog As the brow pencil is too dark for my eyebrows I actually use it as an eyeliner which is great, because the nib on the brow pencil is so thin it creates a really neat line on my eyes. If you got the Goof Proof brow pencil in July’s issue of Elle & was disappointed with the colour you received you should defiantly try using it as a eyeliner I can assure you wont be disappointed.

COLab’s dry shampoo in ‘London’ is not only my favourite dry shampoo because of the super cute dogs tooth pattern on the can. Its my favourite dry shampoo because, It gives my lifeless hair some volume & texture & makes it feel refreshed. I haven't yet tried the sheer & invisible version yet, but as soon as I finish my current can I will definitely purchase it to see if I can notice the difference between the extreme volume version which I’m currently using. I love how affordable the COLab range is & that you can also get travel size versions as well. The extreme volume ‘London’ cost me £4.49 & I bought mine from Superdrug Have you tried any dry shampoo’s from the COLab range??? If so whats your favourite???? If you use a different dry shampoo brand let me know in the comments.

Another fabulous product I found at the start of the month was hair grips from Wilko. I think they cost 95p. You get 50 grips in a pack. What I love the best is that it comes in a handy plastic tub with a screw lid, so you can keep your hair grips safe without them getting lost!!!! Compared to other hair grips I have bought in the past they are seriously the best!!!! They are really strong & not flimsy. When you put them in your hair they are fantastic at keeping your hair in place. In the past I have spent nearly £3 on 20 grips (that didn't even come in a plastic tub) & they have been rubbish & not worth the money. I’m glad I have finally found the ultimate pack of hair grips. My Wilko hair grips are in the colour blonde, but you can also get them in black & medium brown http://

I bought Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy La Fleur in the January sales with my Christmas money at the start of this year. La Fleur is the first Juicy Couture perfume I have ever bought. I got a great deal on the 150ml perfume & got it for half price. Not only does the perfume bottle look really girly & cute the fragrance smells AMAZING!!!! The perfume is an Oriental floral scent with mandarin, wild berries, water lily, honeysuckle, gardenia petals & jasmine. You only need a small amount on as the perfume is quite strong. I only use one spray & you can still smell it at the end of the day. I have been wearing La Fleur everyday this month & I’m not bored with the fragrance yet. I still love the scent as much as the first time I sampled it in the shop. wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_117884000299_-1

I hope you enjoyed reading my guest post :D Leave a comment & say what your September favourites are. Are you Loving the same products as me??? What was your favourite product I wrote about in the post???

Thanks for reading!!! Don't forget to follow all of mine & Leanne’s Social Media.

Guest Post by Toasty Writes

Happy Friyay everyone! I for one am very happy to be saying See Ya Later to this week, and what better way to kickstart the weekend by joining Beth, aka Toasty Writes for a wonderful guest post! I am slowly and surely going cruelty free with my beauty products, so I asked Beth to write a post based around hair care, as its the one part of my beauty cupboard that hasn't been swapped out yet! I hope you enjoy this post as much as I have, and please click HERE for more posts by the lovely Beth...

Something I hear from a lot of people who have decided to go cruelty-free is how difficult it is to find haircare.

And trust me, I get it. It’s taken me a long time to find products that work for my hair, let alone cruelty-free products that work for my hair.

(Just for context: I have difficult hair: fine, flyaway, frizzy. It has a wavy-ish texture that sometimes looks quite undone and beachy, and other times just looks like a complete and utter mess.)

Today I’m sharing some of my favourite cruelty-free hair products, in the hope I can give you some ideas!

Cruelty-Free Conditioner

Yes To make perhaps the most accessible cruelty-free haircare on the high street

they’re a great place to start. Their coconut conditioner is my absolute favourite because it smooths down the ends of my hair and leaves them soft and moisturised, not stringy or weighed down.

The shampoo, on the other hand, is a little too heavy for my roots but might work really well for someone who has thicker hair. I use it to wash my make-up brushes with, so it wasn’t a complete waste of money! With both the shampoo and the conditioner costing £5.99 for 280ml, you won’t be breaking the bank if you decide to give it a go (and there are other products in the haircare range, too).

Everyday Shampoo

This brings me nicely to the shampoo I do use most of the time, Evolve Superfood Shine Shampoo. The bottle I own is a sample size and I strongly recommend getting mini versions of hair products if you can, especially if you choose to buy from a website like Love Lula or Naturisimo. They are both excellent places to find cruelty-free products but the range in prices can vary hugely, and I feel much better splashing out if I know something works for me.

Superfood Shine is a foamy shampoo that gently cleanses the hair and doesn’t cause irritation on my scalp. It also gives my hair a lovely healthy sheen, more than living up to its name.

Sunday Shampoo

Once a week I like to really detox my hair and get rid of any build-up, which is where the LUSH Big Shampoo comes in. It contains sea salt, which gives your roots a huge boost, but can be quite drying if used too often, which is why I stick to once a week. That said, the coconut oil does go a long way to soften the hair (and the lemon and lime juice make it smell so fresh! Definitely a favourite of mine).

Styling Products

I’ll admit, I rarely bother to do anything much with my hair other than wash and go. On the odd occasion I do use heat styling, I reach for Swell Ultimate Protect & Renew Serum when I want a sleek look. It isn’t too heavy but really helps to smooth the hair and I love that it contains heat protection, too.

If I want to play up the wavy texture in my hair, I use a couple of light spritzes of Intelligent Nutrients Volumizing Spray. This non-crispy formula helps to give waves subtle definition and lift, without adding too much gunk. I’ve been reaching for it over the summer months and don’t see myself stopping now the weather’s getting colder!

What do you like to use on your hair? Have you tried any cruelty-free haircare products?

Thanks Beth!

Love, Leanne Xx

What I think of The Power of Makeup Palette by Too faced

With my birthday money I treat myself to a palette that I'd been eagerly waiting for for months after seeing sneaky peeks on Snapchat and Instagram. I've never previously owned anything by Too faced before but I was drawn to this product mainly because I'm a fan of Nikkie Tutorials who created this with the brand, and also because it looked super cute! I'd heard great things about Too Faced so I knew to expect nothing but perfection!

Since receiving this product it's been used on a working day basis (I don't bother with makeup at home) and I've loved playing with it. I haven't worn all of the eyeshadows yet, but  have swatched them for this post on the back of my wrist. My favourites have to be Ivy, the matte white (base) and Sugar Coated, the sparkly pink. I've also used it as a highlighter, but I'll talk more about that later...

I think it's fab that there is a colour in here for every occasion, you have your nude, neutral shades, pastels, and then super bright fun ones too. The shade Wanted is perfect for smokey eyes, and as a liner too. So you are covered for work, parties, holidays, you name it!

The two blushers are really pretty, I particularly like the pink, Justify my Love. There is also a soft coral blush included too, but as a redhead, I feel like I end up looking a bit like a...well...carrot haha! I've seen in Nikkie's YouTube posts that they can be used on the eyes too, so very versatile!

Also within the palette is a soft bronzer, it's highly pigmented so you don't need to use a lot, this can be used to warm the face, for contouring, and around the eyes.

Now we come to the highlighter...and I have to say that I was most disappointed with this! Nikkie is known for being the queen of highlighter, and I expected so much more. This really disappears into my skin, there's minimal glow, and it just feels flat to me. I ended up using the eyeshadow Sugar Coated over the top for more of a pop.

All powders with the exception of the highlighter are very pigmented, so a little goes a long way! I've found everything so far to blend very easily too.

So that's the palette... but you also receive a few other goodies for your money! Tucked away in a separate pouch within the gift box you'll find a mini Better than Sex mascara in purple, a pot of glitter, an eye primer, and an eyeliner in black.

The primer is great, I find it to prevent creasing, and to also keep the eyeshadow in place all day long.  The mascara is very funky! I tend to just use it on the bottom lashes for a bit of a change every now and again.

I'm not overly fond of putting glitter on my face, but this pot isn't bad! The glitter is very fine and I didn't think it was too messy either. I used a small amount over my eyeshadow and it really did look quite pretty! It really picks up the light and shines a rainbow of colours.

The eyeliner is really easy to use too, it has such a sharp point to it to really create the finest line you need, I even tried wings with this badboy, and it looked alright to say it was my first attempt haha!

Overall I've been really happy with this palette, I think the price of £50 (approx) wasn't too bad seeing as you get all the little extras, and it's a limited edition... The colours are gorgeous and easy to wear, I think it's one that everyone can fall in love with.

Did you buy this palette? What are your thoughts on it?

Get the Autumn/Winter Look with Zao Makeup

Recently I posted on Facebook and Instagram before and after makeup shots to show what a difference makeup makes to me. I was completely overwhelmed by all the lovely comments that people left, sometimes you forget how absolutely wonderful people can be! It was such a confidence boost, that I really needed!

After religiously watching Youtube channels such as My Pale Skin and NIkkie Tutorials, I decided to have a bit more of a play with my steadily growing collection of makeup. My new favourite brand has to be Zao Makeup which I have posted about before, but seriously, you need to try them! I'm super impressed with everything I've used by them so far, and I love everything that the company stands for regarding organic, natural products even down to the packaging.

The Silk foundation has such incredible coverage, and I wouldn't be without the concealer for my under eye luggage! The Shine - Up powder is still the best highlighter I've tried, for more details on my thoughts on these products please check out THIS previous post.

Quite recently Zao Makeup very kindly sent me their multipurpose Plum 606 liner to try. I LOVE IT! It is just perfect for autumn/winter and the colour looks so dramatic next to my skin tone!

It's formula is incredible, very creamy and easy to use. I love it for both the eyes and lips. It doesn't drag, it's very kind to the skin, and there is no dryness/bleeding or tightening to the lips either once applied. You can choose from a variety of different colours, some are multipurpose, some are specifically for eyes or lips and there's even eyebrow pencils. They cost £9.95 each, which is about right when compared to other brands. Click HERE and visit Zao Makeup's website. You will find a great selection of products with hints and tips, information on ingredients etc..

Thankyou for reading!

Guest Post by @allthingslacquer

Today's post is by the lovely Sam of @allthingslacquer Instagram. This is another lady who I have admired for a few years now, Sam has her own blog which I love and always keep up-to-date with, and her Instagram page is so beautiful, you can check it out here

I asked Sam to share with us one of her favourite beauty items, and here it is! Enjoy!

Hi guys! Hope you're all well. Today's post is about an absolute must have product. The Essence Lash Princess Mascara. This guy is absolutely incredible. I came across this little gem a few years back when I reviewed for Essence and I've not stopped using it since.

For just £3.30, this is hands down the best mascara I've ever used.
The gives insane amount of volume, without any clumping (at the beginning it might with the mascara being super wet) and can be built up to make you look like you're wearing falsies!
This doesn't budge or smudge on me (they do sell a waterproof one too if that's your preference) and there's no flaking either.

Make sure you all go out and give it a go, it's by far my favourite drugstore product to date.

Thanks so much for reading!

Thank you Sam for taking the time to guest on my little blog, this mascara really looks fab and at such a great price too! Please make sure you give Sam a cheeky follow on her blog, and on Instagram too

Discovering Zao Makeup

Lately I've been watching a lot of Holistichabits YouTube videos to find ways of improving my skincare and makeup, to help with the breakouts I've been dealing with on my face.

Having simplified my skincare routine, I really wanted to make a start on swapping out my makeup... unfortunately, a lot of the brands featured in Sarah's videos would have to be imported, which means expensive

I decided to google 'vegan makeup UK',  I figured the cleaner the makeup, the better it will be for my skin. I am completely against cruelty to animals for the sake of beauty, and have really begun to be more wary of the beauty products I buy, so when this brand 'Zao' popped up, I had to have a nosey on their website.

I was completely overwhelmed and so very impressed with what I found! From 100% natural formulas to organic ingredients, from refillable and sustainable products to gluten free, this brand covers every need!

I don't believe I have ever come across this on the high street, and buying from a new brand through the internet is a bit risky when you don't know what shade you'll need, so I decided to drop them a quick email...

They are so helpful! They sorted me out with a couple of samples that arrived on my doorstep super quick, based on a brief description of my skin-tone. I was able to place my order that same day for my full size products!

After a little hiccup with Royal Mail, my parcel arrived with my new goodies! The team at Zao were really great, ensuring that after my first parcel went missing, another was sent out straight away. You really cannot fault the customer service from these guys.

Silk Foundation

This has to be one of the best foundations I've ever tried, and there has been many! I was a little surprised to find that instead of having a pump dispenser, you are provided with a small spatula... this is not a problem what-so-ever, its just new to me! You really only need a small amount of this product for medium to full coverage, it is very easily built up. I like to apply mine with a stippling brush, first dotting it around the face then slowly blending it in using a circling motion. It also applies well with a sponge if that is your preference...

The silk foundation is very light on the skin, but lasts all throughout the working day. Usually when I get home I feel the need to take my makeup straight off, but with these products I find no discomfort or aggravation, so now there is no major rush to wash it off as soon as I step through the door!

When using with the silk foundation, I've found that I barely need to use this! Its great for under eyes, and actually as a primer for eye-shadows, but because I get such great coverage from the foundation, I only need this for the worst parts of my breakouts.

The formula is fantastic, so creamy and easy to work with. Like all of Zao's products, this has no toxic preservatives, instead using micronised silver which also happens to be antiseptic.

This concealer is £16.95, which may sound a little pricey, but its less than what I was paying for my previous concealer, and as I wont be using a lot at a time, it will last me a good while. It is also refillable, so when I do eventually run out, I can just buy it again minus the case, which means it will only cost £9.95. Wonderful!

Shine Up Powder

I was very excited to receive this product, I've tried both liquid and powder highlighters, and honestly, this is the best one yet! The liquid highlighters that I've tried previously from other brands didn't seem to last two minutes, very disappointing, and the powder ones tended to dull very quickly too...

The Shine-Up powder gives me a heavenly glow all day, even at work! I've been using it on the cheekbones, eyebrows, corner of my eyes, tip of my nose....I like to glow OK?! I like how this gives you a non-greasy, non-glittery, and non-powdery finish. I'd like to say you don't need to use a lot of this product, but if you're anything like me, you will soon be hooked and add a little bit more here and there haha!

It will also suit all skin-tones. I'm very pale, and have to be careful not to go too pink or too brown, but this works perfectly.

I also have to mention the packaging! All products come with beautiful bamboo cases, but this also has a magnetic lid! So clever! Your chosen products will also come in a cotton pouch, which make a lovely gift, for yourself too!

Already I have noticed a change in my skin whilst using these products, when removing my other makeup, I notice that my breakouts have become redder and angrier throughout the day, but when removing Zao makeup, there is no angry, red skin underneath. Don't get me wrong, the breakouts are still there, but this makeup doesn't make it at all worse.

I feel like alongside my skincare routine, my problematic skin is finally on the mend. Its also given me more confidence in my appearance.

There are many more products I have on my wishlist from this website, have you tried any? I'd love to know any other recommendations... I've also been eyeing up their range of nail-polish haha!

Please take a look at their website HERE and have a good read about their company and products. I know you will be just as impressed as I've been...

Thank you for reading, remember to hit the heart below if you've enjoyed this post

Bath Bakes Co

Ahhh ...... another great find through Instagram. A small business called Bath Bakes Co who handmakes bath goodies that are vegan & cruelty free, and also synthetic fragrance oil free. So no animal testing and no ingredients derived from animals. Perfect!

Intsa-friends have been posting pictures of these treats left, right and centre lately and I had to get in on the action. I opted for the Bake trio which costs £10 and you can choose between a few different scents. The Victoria sponge was the one for me, which includes a bottle of strawberry jam bath syrup, fluffy vanilla cake mix and a tub of vanilla bean bath cream. I also bought a tub of Rasberry ripple cheesecake bath dessert for £5.95.

Strawberry Jam bath syrup

Honestly, at first I was a little disappointed with this. Don't ask me why, but I was expecting bubbles, even though there is absolutely no mention of bubbles haha! However, it added the most glorious scent to my bathwater, a very true smell of strawberry jam. Delish! This syrup is made up with the most fabulous ingredients, including Glycerin, Vitamin E, organic coconut oil, olive oil, organic hemp oil and organic jojoba oil. You know your skin will be loving all this goodness. I believe you can even use it as a body wash. It can be bought separately for just £3.95

Fluffy Vanilla cake mix

I REALLY like this! Just pour the mix generously into the bath for the most scrummy yummy scent, and there are bubbles too. They don't last the whole bath, but the scent sure does and that's what counts. Again, only the best ingredients are used including Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, Arrowroot powder, and more... Starting at £2.95 for a packet you cant go wrong. If you are tempted by this shop, be sure to add one of these to the basket.

Vanilla Bean bath cream

Now this one is my absolute favourite of the bunch. It has an incredible formula, very creamy, and feels like a dream on the skin. When massaged onto your wet skin, it gently lathers up to create a lovely light cleanser. It has a very clean scent, not overpowering, just a very subtle hint of vanilla. I found that my skin felt so well nourished and soft after using this. It can also be purchased separately for just £5.95 which I truly believe is fantastic value for money, and this will definitely be a repeat purchase.

I really love the little details with this product, the vanilla placed on top really does give the appearance of being freshly baked!

Raspberry Ripple cheesecake bath dessert

I haven't tried this one yet, but I've had a quick sniff and oooo it smells lush! This cream wash has the same look as the vanilla bean though it also has a sugar scrub at the base. It looks super cute as well with the swirl of raspberry pink on top with just a sprinkling of tiny glitters. Again, £5.95 just seems like such a happy price! Especially when you know you're getting a lovingly hand made product with really great ingredients.

Please find Bath Bakes Co here

Overall I have been really happy with my buys. I'm trying so hard to become more aware of the ingredients and of the ethics behind the products I buy and businesses that I buy from. This particular business ticks all the boxes. I highly recommend these products, let me know if you've tried any others and what you thought.

Be sure to go and have a nosey and treat yourself if not!

Kapuluan Coconut

I really don’t know where to start with this one, so apologies if I seem to be blabbering on in no particular order! I have recently discovered this brand/product and I’m just so thrilled with it!

I came across Kapuluan Coconut on Instagram, they gave me a cheeky follow and I had a nosey through their page (which is stunning by the way!), and I was instantly hooked. I clicked the link to the website and made my first purchase there and then…

Basically this brand and its products are made in the Philippines, using coconut from the trees they plant. For every product you buy from them, they plant another coconut palm tree. Kapuluan coconut works closely with its community, helping local farmers recover from the destruction from Typhoon Haiyan, and also working in partnership with the community to be self sustaining.

There are so many benefits to using coconut oil, here are a few mentioned on their website…

Coconut oil is a non-toxic sunscreen that has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous Pacific Islanders. The oil works to protect the skin and underlying tissues from damage to excessive exposure, also by orally consuming coconut oil you will help strengthen your skin making it less prone to sunburn.

Healthy Skin

I have literally gone crazy with my tube, and it’s nearly half gone already (I only got it a couple of days ago)! I have been using it for everything, but mainly on my face & body. You don’t need to use a lot, squeeze a small amount into your hands and the oil will melt making it easier to spread over your skin. It smells absolutely lush, such a pleasure to use. You can use it combined with your regular skincare, or if you’re like me, you can use it solo completely replacing the majority of your lotions and potions.

Coconut oil will keep your skin healthy, glowing, hydrated and smooth. It leaves a protective barrier on your skin against environmental and free radical damage, and as it is anti-oxidant and antibacterial, it helps to treat acne, itchiness, flakiness, dryness from eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. As it is loaded with vitamin E it will also help to repair skin damage, and protect against wrinkles.

Healthy hair

I have used this as a mask overnight, I just completely drenched my hair in it, massaging it into my scalp, went to bed and washed it out thoroughly in the morning. There was a noticeable difference in the condition of my hair, it was fuller and glossier without greasiness.

Coconut oil has so many different uses and I won’t delve into them all, but you can use it for oil-pulling (which I’m keen to try & have been researching various YouTube channels for), and it’s safe for babies & pets. My dog absolutely loves it, wagging his tail for another taste haha!  You can also use it for shaving, it works really well, leaving no irritation from the razor, and also as a lip balm or cuticle oil.

I love how it comes in a tube. You have such control over the amount you use, and it’s so easy too. When it’s warm you will see that it transforms from a fairly hard white substance to a clear oil.

Kapuluan coconut oil is 100% organic, all natural, pure and high grade for beauty and personal care. It is hand pressed without the use of large industrialised equipment, which is great for the environment and supporting the local farming families. The process used is kept simple, avoiding heat which produces the best quality coconut oil. If you take a look on their website, it really does give you so much more information, which I found really interesting and enjoyed!

I’ve touched on this in a previous post, but I really am trying to make small changes to my lifestyle which will hopefully end with me using all natural and cruelty free beauty products. I don’t think I could ever go completely vegan, that may be selfish of me, but surely making many and small changes in daily life and routine is a step towards helping the environment…

Please have a nosey at their website, and if you would like to try some for yourself, please use my link to save a massive 30% off your order –

Update!! 30th July

Having been so impressed with this oil I decided to order the x3 pack to be fully stocked up. Unfortunately I received a customs charge for this second order – please bear this in mind when ordering xx

Thank you for reading, have a lovely week! Love, Leanne Xx
