by Wired article When the world was young, manicures were the only thing people cared about.

Today, the idea of a “real” manicure is something that can be bought and delivered from an office in a matter of minutes, but even back then, most people would only consider a simple, straightforward manicure as a “pretty” or “sexy” one.

For some people, the choice of manicure was a personal one.

“I have a lot of friends that say they have no desire to get married, and they’re very happy with a simple straight line,” says Lauren Sowders, an English teacher in Portland, Oregon, and the author of the blog, “The American Woman.”

“So what if you’re like me, and you’re looking for a little bit more sparkle, a little more interest?

Then a simple manicure will work for you.”

For Sowdsers, who works in the health and beauty industry, getting her nails done in a simple manner was something she would never do in the past, so her first experience with nail art came when she was in high school.

“It’s not a glamorous style, and I think it’s more of a natural look,” she says.

“So that’s what I really gravitated towards, which is the straight lines.”

Sowards first nail art session involved applying a little oil on her nails to give her some sparkle.

After a few sessions, she started to notice that the designs on her hands and feet were different, which made her want to try out some different shapes.

“My friend asked me if I wanted to try a gold nail, and that’s when I got really into it,” she recalls.

“She wanted a black nail, so I got the black.

I thought it was pretty, but it was really hard to get on with.”

A lot of nail art artists are still working out the kinks with their designs, and Sows eventually settled on a simple white nail.

“If I’m going to do a nail art project, I’m definitely going to try and make it as simple as possible, so the less you have to think about it, the better,” she explains.

“And I’ve definitely found that the longer I’ve been doing it, I’ve found that it’s easier to get a nail out of the bag.”

To see if her ideas for nails were any easier to work with after years of using a variety of nail styles, Sowksy headed to a nail salon in the United States, which she thought would be the perfect place to try her own nails.

“They had a huge selection of manicures, and my friend was like, ‘Oh, there’s this one I want you to try, it’s really simple,'” she says of the salon’s staff.

“But I had no idea what to expect, and then I came in, and it was a different story.”

The experience was “absolutely amazing”, Sowdy says, but she also found it “hard to take the time to put the nails on.”

“I was really excited about getting it done in the salon, and so when I went home and went to put it on, it was so much easier to do than I thought I would be,” she adds.

“There was a feeling of freedom and calmness, which was really nice.”

Sowe’s experience was one of the many reasons Sowads’ blog, called “The Modern American Woman,” has become such a hit, and she says she’s learned a lot about nail art.

“Most people think that I’m a manicurist, but the whole time I’m just trying to be a friend, and a friend’s a friend,” she tells Wired.

“Even though I have a job, I just want to be able to take care of myself and my clients, and do the best I can to make people happy.”

“If you’re going to have fun, make sure you take care with the way you do it, and don’t be afraid to experiment,” she continues.

“Be creative and see what happens.”
